Rowan University is committed to addressing healthcare disparities in underserved communities through community outreach, education and service. Rowan University has implemented targeted campaigns to address the disproportionate impact of the COVID -19 virus in communities around South Jersey.
Cooper Medical School of Rowan University
Service to the Camden Community is a hallmark of CMRSU. Current initiatives include:
The CMSRU students who work as the CARE Team will staff a vaccine clinic at the Kroc Center to serve populations in Camden
Throughout the MLK day of service, CMSRU students circulated informational material to patients at Cooper as well as and organized materials in Spanish and other languages
CMSRU is supporting Cooper‘s COVID-19 vaccination Centers Camden County and Camden City
CMSRU students have given approximately 5,000 hours of vaccine distribution service
School of Osteopathic Medicine
RowanSOM has been very active to meet their mission of serving minoritized and marginalized communities and have been able to secure funding to support this mission moving forward.
Current initiatives include:
Providing vaccines to elderly homebound patients
Vaccinating caregivers of developmentally disabled patients
Implementing a culturally competent training program, advocacy and leadership in predominantly African Americans megachurch(s) in southern Jersey.
Working with the Robert Johnson Foundation to provide training and vaccine distribution
Implemented the Vaccine Ethics Committee, which advises the Vaccination Center and the Reengagement Task Force on ethical issues, questions and concerns. The committee consists of ethicist, legal, student/employee health, HR, and an infectious disease expert
Providing programing through the Hope One Van in Atlantic City, focusing on serving the Latinx population
Developed a mobile vaccination plan to reach minoritized communities in South Jersey, seeking to collaborate with Inspira. RowanSOM is also working with transportation and supply chain faculty on how to develop a strategy on getting the vaccine to communities using the Inspira EMT network
