DEI President’s Committee Report

  • lead by Dr. McPherson – Myers and R.J. Tallrida
  • Goals: create a student support action plan that focuses on (1) increasing enrollment from underrepresented groups (2) increasing 4 – 5 graduate rates of Black and Latinx-a-o students (3) increasing job placement after graduation for students of underrepresented groups

Strategic Action Plan Updates

  • DEI is reviewing the plans and will be providing feedback soon
  • DEI encourages departments/colleges to begin acting on action plans and any feedback they provide will enhance what you have already begun working on

Neurodiversity Task Force Updates

  • Integration of working with Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) and Rowan College at South Jersey (RCSJ) and with medical schools
  • The Neurodiversity task force is working to enhance the DEI Certificate to include neurodiversity and developing the Inclusive Pedagogy Certificate in Spring 2021

DEI Department Updates

ASCEND AND CHAMP

  • ASCEND is the newest member of the Greater Philadelphia Louis Stokes Alliance, a coalition of regional college and university educators whose work is to increase access to a four-year STEM degree.The Alliance received a $3.2 million National Science Foundation grant in August that will help fund research and access initiatives over the next five years at key Philadelphia-area colleges and universities.   • CHAMP celebrated their virtual kick-off and will resume Saturday academies for college preparation and readiness on October 10th.

OSEC

  • October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
  • Student Advisory Council is meeting monthly, students serve as an liaison between OSEC and Rowan students
  • The Student Title IX Summit is projected for April 2021, taking place virtually

Strategic Priority Committee (SPC) Updates 

SPC1 – Creating a more inclusive and equitable campus community

  • They are looking for faculty, staff, and student content contributors for the DEI Blog, if interested in helping, please email DEI@Rowan.edu
  • Collaborating with Student Government Association (SGA) and Social Justice, Inclusion and Conflict Resolution (SJICR)

SPC2 – Recruiting, retaining and supporting a more diverse campus community

  • Working on project based work, in collaboration with other offices on campus to (1) expand e use of inclusive language and practices (2) reduce barriers to full participation at Rowan University (3) increase faculty involvement and outreach in student recruitment (4) xpand scholarship funding d revising structure in collaboration with other individuals and departments who are engaged in this work

SPC3 – Promoting and Supporting Inclusive Teaching, Scholarship and Professional Development

  • Developing a Faculty Hiring Toolkit
  • Proposed, pending approval, DEI recommendations for Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion work is being valued and rewarded as part of the professional responsibility of every faculty and staff member at Rowan University
  • Exploring recommendations for intercultural competence and diversity across the curriculum.
