Believe the hype: Celebrating a century of Rowan University

Call it a hype video for Rowan University’s first century.

From the first class of 236 education students in 1923 to the nearly 700 Profs who gathered on the University Green just last week to populate a giant 100, the new video is celebrating the rich past—and exciting future—of Rowan University.

In just 98 seconds, the video takes viewers on a quick-and-inspiring journey through the institution’s 100 remarkable years. Among dozens of other highlights, viewers will enjoy:

  • An aerial view of the campus when College Hall (now Bunce Hall) was the only building set on 55 acres;
  • A group photo of the first students at Glassboro Normal School;
  • Formal pictures of students in the 1920s, including some studying biological sciences in Sangree Greenhouse;
  • A candid of Coach Richard Wackar, who was the only coach to win New Jersey Athletic Conference championships in basketball, football, golf and cross country;
  • Photos of University benefactor Henry Rowan, whose $100 million gift transformed the institution, and former President Herman James as he celebrated Rowan’s distinction as a university;
  • A snapshot of alumnus and geography department founder Marvin Creamer, the only person to sail around the world without the use of navigational equipment;
  • A photo marking the inauguration of Ali A. Houshmand as Rowan’s seventh president;
  • More recent photos and videos celebrating Rowan’s: multiple campuses; community service; student academic achievements; health care; traditions; research; athletics; arts; Commencement; and school spirit and pride.

The video debuted during Homecoming Week (Oct. 9-15). Fittingly, the Homecoming theme is “Celebrating a Century.”
