Gift Advocates For Mental Health Services As Response To COVID-19

Centene Corporation, a leading multi-national healthcare enterprise, generously gifted $95,700 to the Child Abuse Research Education & Service Institute (CARES) at Rowan Medicine.

For over three decades, the CARES Institute has provided help, compassion and hope for children who have experienced abuse or trauma. Acknowledged as a center of excellence in healing, the Institute’s inter-disciplinary approach utilizes state of the art medical services and evidence-based mental health practices to positively impact a child’s emotional wellbeing.

The Centene Corporation’s gift will directly support Dr. Esther Deblinger's efforts in providing virtual Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in regions across the nation where the impact of COVID-19 has affected the health and/or economic wellbeing of children and their families.

TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment designed to help children, adolescents and their caregivers overcome the often-devastating effects of traumatic experiences. Research has documented that this treatment model effectively helps those aged 3-18 overcome post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Additionally, the model supports caregivers as they strive to effectively cope on their own as well as optimally respond to their child(ren)’s emotional needs.

Centene Corporation has a long-held commitment to the lives of children, families, seniors, people with disabilities and others. Their passion to fulfill critical healthcare needs is encapsulated in their purpose: Transforming the health of the community, one person at a time.

Thanks to the remarkable generosity of Centene, Rowan Medicine, through CARES, will be able to offer unique TF-CBT sessions to children across the nation, ensuring thousands of families will reap the benefits of effective mental health services.
