The team will conclude its visit on March 13 with an oral exit report to the University community of its preliminary findings and recommendations. The team’s formal findings and recommendations will be reviewed by the Commission, which will then vote on reaffirmation of the University’s accreditation in June.

The Self-Study Report presents the findings as well as conclusions and recommendations garnered through comments, feedback, and discussions based on the draft version that was reviewed by the University community in Fall 2018. An Evaluation Team comprising representatives from peer institutions in the Middle States region will review the report, visit the campus to conduct interviews, tour facilities, and otherwise make observations or gather information needed to complete their recommendation to the Commission regarding reaffirmation of accreditation.
How can I get involved?
The accreditation process benefits when everyone is involved. Community members are asked to review the report in its entirety or the parts that are most relevant to their work.
- What does the mission statement mean to you?
The visiting team is interested in how we turn the mission into action here at Rowan. We want to hear from you how you practice inclusivity, agility, and responsiveness in your daily life. Complete our online poll to share your thoughts and experiences.
- Participate in the “Agility challenge”
Hosted by members of PRSSA, Rowan will host an “agility challenge” on campus to highlight how the concept is used on campus by various offices and groups. Join us Wednesday, February 20 at 5pm in the Student Center to learn more about “agility” on campus.

Announcing the 2019 Middle States Self-Study Report
Coming by October 1, the first draft of the 2019 Self-Study Report.
What is the Middle States Self-Study?
Every eight years, Rowan University undertakes a self-study in preparation for review and reaffirmation of our accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The University’s accreditation certifies that we are fulfilling our mission to educate students, advance knowledge, and serve society. Accreditation signifies the validity of the academic degrees we award and authorizes our participation in federal financial aid programs. The Self-Study Report is a comprehensive analysis designed to demonstrate compliance with the Middle States Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation.
The Self-Study Report is reviewed by a team of peer reviewers from institutions around the region, culminating in a visit to campus for in-person interviews and discussions.
The Self-Study is occurring at an opportune time. A new mission statement, debuted in 2017, highlights the ongoing emergence and evolution of our University and inspires new initiatives. The Self-Study details how we manifest the promises of our mission statement and University goals. The assessment and review process that affirms accreditation helps the University reflect on the growth and dynamic nature of our community.
In April 2017, Rowan University began the self-study and evaluation period for the Middle States accreditation process. The Self-Study Co-Chairs, Vice President for Academic Affairs Roberta Harvey, Professor Subash Jonnalagadda, and Director of Assessment Jeff Bonfield, analyzed the accreditation standards and prepared self-study design elements. In September 2017, members of the Steering Committee met with MSCHE liaisons to discuss the self-study plan and garner feedback on Working Group assignments.
What comes next?
Over the next few weeks, you’ll hear more about the findings of the self-study and will be able to review the draft of the Self-Study Report. Then, faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in a self-study roundtable discussion in October to discuss the draft of the Self-Study Report and provide feedback.
