Frequently Asked Questions
How is Success Coaching different from Academic Advising?
Success Coaching works as a complement to academic advising, not as a replacement. Success Coaches work in collaboration with students to determine what success means to them not only academically, but as it pertains to their overall well-being. Using a proactive approach, coaching supports students in meeting their short and long-term goals.
Is this service available to all students?
Success Coaching is available to all undergraduate students.
Should I bring anything to my success coaching appointment?
There isn't anything you are required to bring to your initial appointment, however your coach may suggest bringing your planner, course syllabi, or other class information for further meetings. It truly depends on what the student is looking to gain from their coaching.
Will I see the same Success Coach each time?
Ideally you'll meet with the same Success Coach each time so you can become familiar with each other and get to know one another. However, if you'd like to meet someone new, or try a different style, we can do that too!
How many times should I meet with a Success Coach each semester?
This is determined by the student and the coach, although University data show that students meeting with a coach six or more times a semester show significant improvement in their GPA.
