Exam FAQ's

When and where do I take the ACCUPLACER placement tests?

You can test at home, for a fee, via ACCUPLACER’S online proctor. Alternately, there are appointments available to test without a fee at Rowan University in the Testing Center. Please refer to the information below for suggested completion dates. All placement testing must be completed by the start of the fall semester.

  • If you take your test prior to December 12th for spring admits, prior to June 1st for fall admits, you will have an opportunity at orientation to work with an advisor to make any necessary corrections to your fall schedule (based on the results of your placement tests).
  • If you take your test at orientation you will miss a significant portion of orientation.  You may also miss an opportunity to meet with an advisor to make any necessary corrections to your fall schedule (based on the results of your placement tests).  You may not be able to complete your placement tests because there are a limited number of seats.

  • If you take your test after orientation you will need to confer with your advisor as soon as possible (after completing your placement tests) to make any necessary corrections to your fall schedule (based on the results of your placement tests).

When and where do I take the Chemistry placement test?
The Chemistry I Placement Test is taken online through Rowan University Blackboard. Since the exam is administered electronically on Rowan University Blackboard, it can be taken at home or anywhere there is a reliable internet connection.

Students may make an appointment to come to campus to take the Chemistry I Placement test in the Science Building. Appointment times are limited and an appointment is required for ALL on-campus test taking. Email: genchem@rowan.edu for information about taking the Chemistry I Placement Test on campus.

What do my Accuplacer scores mean?

College Board recently launched next-generation ACCUPLACER placement tests with redesigned reading and math content.  Rowan University is administering the ACCUPLACER next-generation tests.  If you took the tests before January 26, 2019 please contact testingservices@rowan.edu for an explanation of your scores.  If you took the tests January 27, 2019 or after, click Here to see the Course Placement Brochure to help interpret your scores.

What do my Chemistry Placement test scores mean?
20% to 54.99% - Students will be required to complete a prerequisite course Essentials of General Chemistry (CHEM 05100). Essentials of General Chemistry is specifically designed to help prepare students to take Chemistry I. Essentials of General Chemistry does not meet any General Education requirements and may not meet the requirements for some majors.

55% or greater - Students may register for Chemistry I (CHEM 6100). The Chemsitry I course may vary by major and students are encouraged to contact an academic advisor for assistance in selecting the appropriate course. While a score greater than 55% indicates that you are likely capable of successfully completing CHEM 6100, it does not predict your grade in CHEM 6100. Only students who earn a passing score on the Chemistry Placement test or meet one of the requirements are permitted to take CHEM 6100.
