Travel the Universe this summer with the magic of the Edelman Planetarium!

The Rowan University ASTRO Camp is a five-day, non-residential summer program that introduces students to astronomy and the excitement of scientific discovery.

Students will partake in hands-on STEM activities in astronomy and related physics. View the starry skies and constellations of the Northern Hemisphere, as well as the less familiar magnificent skies of Tahiti, Australia, and Antarctica in our Edelman Planetarium!  Other planned activities include:

  • Learning how to identify constellations, stars, planets, asteroids, and galaxies.
  • Constructing and launching low-gravity lunar and planetary landers to demonstrate low gravity on acceleration, weight, and Olympic jump height possibilities!
  • Using telescopes and cell phone adapters to view and photograph the sun. (Personal cell phone may be used but instructor cells phones are available for student use.)
  • Preparing a daily astrophotographic if sunspots are visible.
  • Using the award-winning Starry Night Computer Program to view future solar and lunar eclipses, land on the moon at Lunar Base Aristillus to view the Earth in the dark Lunar sky, and to land on selected planets and asteroids of the solar system.
  • Introductory Trainer Drone Flights and activities will be featured, weather permitting.
While here, students will have the unique opportunity to experience the college environment with lunch at the Rowan University dining hall.
