Gender Affirming Clothes Closet

The gender affirming clothes closet draws inspiration from the transgender clothing swap, hosted bi-annually by the LGBT+ student organization, True Colors during National Coming Out Week (Fall) and Pride Week (Spring). Each year the Rowan community is asked to donate clothing to trans and gender nonconforming students allowing them access to gently used or new gender affirming clothing. In the past, clothing was typically donated or stored off campus until the next drive. Following in True Colors’ tradition of trans visibility and inclusivity, clothing is now donated to either The Triad House in Ewing New Jersey or Aids Thrift in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, or it is stored in a permanent and public fixture. The LGBTQIA+ Resource Center newly houses a closet that stores a portion of these donations, giving students year-round access to seasonally appropriate gender-affirming clothing. The purpose of this service is to alleviate the often heavy financial burden of transitioning or coming out. While members of Rowan’s LGBTQIA+ community are given priority access to this resource, all Rowan students who have a need for this service may use it accordingly.
