Signature Events & Programs

The mentoring program holds several signature events and programs to foster personal, social, academic and professional growth. Mentees and mentors are encouraged to participate in these low cost and/or free events.

Signature Events

Mentor/Mentee Bowling Mixer is the programs kickoff event that allows newly matched peer mentors and mentees to enjoy an evening of bowling, music and fun as they forge their mentoring relationship.

Dr. Harley E. Flack Opening Ceremony is an annual ceremony where participants are formally welcomed to the program. Professional mentors, peer mentors and their respective mentees are encouraged to attend so they have the opportunity to meet and get to know one another.

A trip to New York City and/or Washington D.C. is held annually.  This daylong excursion provides students a cultural/educational experience with opportunities to explore, shop and dine in the city.

Homecoming Weekend: Flack Tailgate is an opportunity to show your Flack & Rowan pride as we grill delicious food during the football game.

End of Semester Celebration/Silent Auction is a fundraising event where we auction donated items at discounted prices to raise money for the Peer Mentor Scholarship Fund.  This EOF/MAP & Dr. Harley E. Flack collaborative event has raised thousands of dollars auctioning off items such as: Apple Watch, Keurig, NutriBullet, local eatery gift cards, assorted gift baskets, etc.

Programming

Cohort Conversations gives program participants an opportunity to network with a professional within their academic discipline to learn more about the field, potential internships and graduate school options.

A spin on the traditional holiday, Flacksgiving, is a potluck that encourages program participants to show off their culinary skills while sharing a dish that is culturally relevant to their Thanksgiving celebration.

Mentoring Mondays is an opportunity for a mentor/mentee match to dine on campus in the Owl’s Nest for free.  Diners must simply RSVP by the Wednesday prior to their Monday Meal and cover the Tip after dining.  This Gourmet Dining/Dr. Harley E. Flack collaboration is on a first come, first served basis.

The Speak & Eat Conversation Series provides a space for students to discuss topics aimed at making safe, informed and healthy choices as they navigate their college career. Past topics include healthy relationships, social justice issues, body image and stress relief.
