Flack Mentoring Programs
Become a Peer Mentee!
Mentees are incoming first-year or transfer undergraduate students looking to be mentored by an upper-class undergraduate student for the course of one academic year.
To become a mentee, you must:
- be a first-year and/or transfer full-time undergraduate student
- attend a one-hour mentee orientation
- complete the online application
- meet with your peer mentor weekly in the first semester and biweekly in the second semester
- have a genuine interest in getting to know and learn from a diverse and inclusive group of people
For optimal chances of being assigned a peer mentor, you must complete the application by August 14th, 2019. Details regarding the "Mentee Orientation" are available upon request.
Become a Peer Mentor!
Peer Mentors are second, third or fourth-year undergraduate students in good academic and judicial standing who volunteer to mentor an incoming first-year or transfer undergraduate student for one academic year.
To become a Peer Mentor you must:
- be a second, third or fourth-year full-time undergraduate student
- have a 2.5 minimum GPA
- complete online peer mentor application
- not have any outstanding sanctions and/or judicial violations within the past year
- be able to assume leadership roles and complete required administrative tasks
- be committed to serving a diverse student population is necessary for a full academic year
The recruitment process for 2019-2020 has ended. We will start a new recruitment process for the 2020-2021 Peer Mentor Recruitment Process, starting in January 2020.
Become a Mentoring Ambassador!
Mentoring Ambassadors are first, second, third or fourth-year undergraduate students who volunteer to mentor high school students at Delsea Regional and Glassboro High school for one semester.
Mentoring Ambassadors serve Delsea Regional High School on Tuesdays and Glassboro High School on Wednesdays throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. Over the course of the semester, Mentoring Ambassadors will lead and engage in discussions on current news, local, national and international issues, co-facilitate icebreakers and other activities, and provide individual and group mentorship.
To become a Mentoring Ambassador, you must be:
- available from 2:00p-4:45p pm on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays throughout the semester.
- interested in volunteering your time to provide mentorship to high school students.

Become an Undergraduate Coordinator
Undergraduate Coordinators are third or fourth-year program participants in good academic and judicial standing who have successfully applied to serve on the Student Coordinating Committee of the Dr. Harley E. Flack Student Mentoring program.
Undergraduate Coordinator Benefits
- Recognized as Undergraduate Coordinators at the program’s opening and closing ceremonies.
- Leadership training and professional development opportunities.
- Receives stipend at the end of each semester based on completed office hours and other responsibilities as outlined below.
Undergraduate Coordinator Responsibilities
In order to participate at this level, Undergraduate Coordinators must be in good standing with the mentoring program and MUST be willing to serve for a full academic year as a member of the Dr. Harley E. Flack Student Coordinating Committee. Additionally, Undergraduate Coordinators will have additional responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Maintain a Professional Mentor
- Complete four office-hours per week for the mentoring program office.
- Keep track of Peer mentor/mentee contacts through the collection of Peer Mentor/Mentee Meeting Logs for each assigned mentoring
- Meet with your mentoring cluster at least once during the course of each semester.
- Work in pairs to assist with planning, coordinating, marketing and executing program events
- Attend a minimum of one service project per academic year.
- Attend bi-monthly Coordinating Committee meetings with the Assistant Director and Graduate Coordinator to review the progress of assigned mentoring
- Assist with interviewing and evaluating incoming peer mentors and other programmatic staff.
- Assist with selecting Peer Mentors of the Semester and Peer Mentor of the Year.

Become a Professional Mentor!
Professional Mentors are full-time faculty and/or staff members from the Rowan community who have dedicated their time to mentor a Dr. Harley E. Flack peer mentor for the course of one academic year.
Participation in the mentoring program includes opportunities to facilitate one of our student development Speak and Eat conversations, serve as a chaperone on a cultural awareness-building trip or attend one of many social events. A Professional Mentor can actively mentor one to three students.
