Behind the Telescope
We've partnered with the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey to increase girls' interest and confidence in astronomy through the Behind The Telescope project funded by NASA.
Through Behind the Telescope, girls will have access to NASA scientists, hands-on STEM activities, and much more in public outreach events throughout the year all while earning merit badges. Find information about the next outreach event and register your scouts below.

Astronomy Day - April 29, 6 - 9:30 pm
We invite all Girl Scout Cadettes to join us as we go Behind the Telescope to study the planets and constellations on Astronomy Day! Astronomy Day is an international celebration of the night sky. We're celebrating by offering a Badge Day for Cadettes to earn their Space Science Researcher badge.
The 3.5-hour event will feature a NASA scientist/engineer, telescope observations of the sky (weather permitting), a planetarium show, and hands-on activities. Registration will open in mid-March. Space is limited to the first 100 scouts and troop leaders.
In addition to earning the Space Science Researcher badge, all participants will receive a Planetarium fun patch! Participants can choose between two amazing designs.
Below is a preview of the schedule of events (subject to change).
