DUG Scholarship

As we prepare for the DUG 2023 conference in Glassboro, NJ, this August, we'd like to invite you to apply for a scholarship to offset some of the expenses of meeting in person!

The annual conference and business meeting will be hosted at the Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, from August 23 - 25, 2023. Pre-conference workshops will be held August 21 - 23 at Spitz in nearby Chadds Ford, PA. Hotel rooms at both sites have been reserved for the group.

Registration is expected to open at the end of April. In-person registration will be $125/per person. The conference is also being hosted virtually on Zoom for $25 per person.

We will be awarding up to two $1,000 scholarships this year. More information about eligibility and how to apply is below. The application deadline is 15 May 2023.

Who is eligible?

  • An applicant must be currently employed at a planetarium with a Digistar system.
  • The applicant organization must have been a member of DUG for at least three years and unable to send staff to the DUG conference without financial assistance.
  • The application should come directly from the individual who desires the scholarship. A letter from the applicant’s supervisor or from the applicant if they have no supervisor detailing the financial need should be included or sent separately.
  • Priority will be given to first-time applicants.
  • Successful applicants will receive a waiver of conference registration for the annual conference held in the year the application is made and reimbursement of up to $1,000 for accommodation and transportation costs to and from the host city.

Expectations of successful applicants:

  • The successful applicant must meet all applicable deadlines for the scholarship application, conference registration, or paper/poster submission.
