Room Assignments
I do not like my assignment. How do I change it?
I have a medical accommodation but my current assignment does not meet it. What should I do?
Have you submitted your medical accommodation paperwork to the Academic Success Center? If so, our staff will work to assign you into a placement that meets your needs over the coming weeks. Sometimes, this can take time and we cannot guarantee your roommate will be able to come with you as it is only based on availability.
If you need to register an accommodation, please reach out to the Academic Success Center at successcenter@rowan.edu for more information or check out their website, here..
I am not assigned with my desired roommate.
Roommate matches are not guaranteed and should have been submitted before the deadline of May 17th. If you submitted a request after this deadline, we may not have been able to assign you together.
If you have a particular person you would like to live with, you can request a room swap or put yourself on the waitlist. For more information on these processes check out the website here.
Can I see my room before I move in?
We cannot give tours of rooms before moving in, but you can check out your hall virtually through our website! We have a page dedicated to each building, including amenities, average room sizes, furniture lists, pictures, videos, and so much more!
We kindly ask that you check out your building pages before calling or emailing with any questions about your room. Unfortunately we are unable to provide specific information on specific bedrooms like measurements of walls and windows.
Additionally, there are several videos of spaces produced by students, available on YouTube.
What furniture is provided in my room?
We have a fantastic furniture description page that includes the type of furniture included, size of bed, and the standard dimensions of the furniture. Click here to see.
Move-In
What does move in look like at Rowan?
Plans for move in are still being finalized and you will receive an email with specific information in the coming weeks. However, first-year move-in will take place Labor Day Weekend so we request that you keep this weekend open. You can also check out our Move-in page here.
I need to move-in early, how can I make that request?
I’m not sure what to pack. What do you suggest?
Check out our suggested packing list! Please keep in mind this is only a suggestion, not a required packing list.
Less is more! Remember, you will be sharing a smaller space than you are used to, with another student.
There are also a number of prohibited items you cannot bring with you. Please review this list before purchasing anything for your room. If you do bring any of these prohibited items with you, you will be asked to remove them and take them home.
I’d like to bring a tapestry, but I hear there's some restrictions. How does that work?
Yes! You are allowed to bring tapestries but, there are some stipulations. Curtains, wall tapestries, flags or any other wall covering (including pictures, posters, etc) that cover more than 50% of a wall or door are not allowed. However, these items are permitted if they cover less than half of any wall or door, as per NJ State fire code.
Check out our Safety and Security page for more information.
I would like to have a microwave and/or mini fridge. How do I get one?
If you are assigned to a traditional residence hall room (not an apartment), a Microfridge unit will be installed as a standard piece of room furnishing. It is not something that you need to arrange for an additional contract with a 3rd party vendor in order to keep once you have arrived on campus. It comes standard with the room, as long as you have a traditional residence hall room assignment.
Check out our page here for more information on Microfridge units and its regulations.
I heard it gets hot in the residence halls. What can I bring to cool down?
General Questions
How do I get mail?
Each of our residence halls and apartments have different mailing addresses and mailroom procedures. Please see our Mail & Packaging website here for more information.
How does the Wifi or cable work? What should I bring?
How do I do laundry in my residence hall?
Laundry service across campus is provided by Caldwell and Gregory. Each wash/dry load costs $1.25. Depending on the building, each machine utilizes either quarters, Rowan Bucks, or Credit / Debit Card for ease of payment.
Currently, Edgewood Park Apartments does not have laundry facilities in the complex. Students typically use the large laundry room located in the Student Center.
The following buildings accept Rowan Bucks for laundry:
- Chestnut Hall
- Student Center
- Townhouses
- Triad Apartments
The following buildings only accept quarters, credit or debit:
- Evergreen Hall
- Holly Pointe Commons
- Mullica Hall
- Rowan Boulevard Apartments
- Whitney Center
