Industrial arts pioneer

industrial arts major

From The Whit in 1968: "Damsel Draftsman? Joyce Tucker, freshman, holds the record as the first female member of GSC’s Industrial Arts Department. High school mechanical drawing classes provided the incentive for her decision."

Set to graduate with the Class of ’72, she began in General Elementary curriculum, but changed her major to Industrial Arts in her second semester. In addition to drafting, she enjoyed graphic art and setting prints. She found her classmates helpful, but hoped for some female colleagues.
