Artist in Residence Program

Artist in Residence Program

Department of Art + Rowan University Art Gallery

Each year, the Department of Art and Rowan University Art Gallery invite artists to apply to the annual Artist in Residence Program. This program, housed within the Department of Art at Rowan University, supports the artistic development of professional artists while advancing creative and artistic excellence within the Rowan community. The residency period is one full semester and offers a stipend, studio space, access to department of art facilities, an optional exhibition, and artist-led programming.

Rowan University is a mid‐sized state institution located in southern New Jersey. The Department of Art serves approximately 1400 students and employs 7 full‐time faculty. The curriculum includes courses in drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, illustration, web design, video and animation, sculpture, metals/jewelry, ceramics, art education, and art history.

Through rigorous degree programs in studio arts and art education, the Department of Art nurtures creative expression within a liberal arts and professional context, fostering the important humanistic role played by the visual arts in today's society. The Department of Art also prepares majors for creative problem solving with a technological foundation that is relevant for the twenty-first century. Moreover, courses in art history, art appreciation, and non-major studios provide visual art experiences that stimulate and enhance the aesthetic, creative, and cultural literacy of the entire college community.

The Artist in Residence Program provides students with an opportunity to observe an artist at work and to engage in dialogue with the artist through talks, demonstrations, and open studio visits.

The application cycle for AIR 2020 has now closed. Please check back for updated information regarding the AIR 2021 call for entry. If you have questions regarding the Artist in Residence Program please contact Jillian Schley at schley@rowan.edu.
