Where will the internship be done? 

Given the current environment, this position will be onboarded as a remote/virtual position, with the opportunity to eventually work in-person at the Choose NJ office in Newark, NJ.

Dates / Length of Summer Internship 

This is a semester-long, part-time internship with expectation for a start date of May 2021 and current tentative end date of August 2021, with potential to continue through the fall 2021 term.

Required Hours/Week

10-15 hours per week spread over 2-3 days per week during normal business hours (9:00am to 5:00pm).

Please explain the work that will be required of the intern: 

The business development department is currently seeking an intern to perform research and analysis in support of the organization’s policy and strategy. As the Business Development Intern, you will also provide data analytics and administrative support to assist with lead generation activities and request for information. This internship is an excellent opportunity to learn about the economic development field and support the work of showcasing the State of New Jersey as the best place to grow business.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports the business development team in the preparation of requests for information from site selectors, real estate brokers and other key service providers
  • Assists with industry data, workforce development reports, statistics and analysis to support responses to customers for information
  • Researches data and information to support the creation of marketing collateral materials and the website
  • Crafts reports comparing New Jersey’s costs of living, taxes, and regulations to other states.
  • Collaborates with state agencies, county economic development offices, and utility companies to support client needs.
  • Supports with preparation of client presentations using PowerPoint
  • Perform research, analysis, provide insight to the management team to drive sound decision-making.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree master’s degree program in public policy, planning, economics and/or related fields
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent research capabilities including data mining, mapping, and business analytics
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in economic development issues preferred
  • Resourceful, well organized, deadline-driven and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and capable of taking initiative
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required
  • Must receive college credit
