Please explain the work that will be required of the intern: 

 

In the office, interns will have a chance to learn about the legislative process, how to draft press releases and run social media accounts, how to work a constituent case and do outreach within the community. Our office is always busy and interns may need to help with traditional office work such as answering the phones and answering emails.

Examples of the kind of work that will be done in the office:

- drafting a letter to send to a new business

- researching ideas for new legislation

-creating social media graphics for the Assemblywoman’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages

-doing intake for unemployment cases over the phone with constituents

-helping to plan the Assemblywoman’s future events/ clothing drives/ food drives

 

 

Will there be opportunities for the intern to observe:

 

Internal strategy sessions?  x

Committee hearings? x

 

Is the intern expected to work evenings and weekends?  If so, please explain.  If there is an event on the weekends or in the evening that they would like to attend, they are more than welcome to.  However, we do not require any work before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m.

The areas you can focus on are legislation, constituent services, outreach, communications/scheduling, or other.
