Junior faculty are probationary faculty that are full time serving in the following capacities: pre-tenure tenure-track Faculty and Lecturers in their first 6 years of service

The Office of the Provost has provided funding for additional travel support for all full-time, probationary faculty to attend a conference, present a paper, conduct a workshop, perform, or exhibit works of art at a conference during the during the year. Proposals based on all forms of scholarship as defined in the university documents will be considered. Please see the "memorandum of agreement" on the Provost's website. Also, for non-tenure track faculty professional development travel is funded.

Because we typically see more Spring travel compared to Fall, the available funds AND application deadlines will differ!

Travel between 7/1/2018 - 12/31/2018 - Applications ACCEPTED NOW thru 11/15/2018
Travel between 1/1/2019 - 6/30/2019 - Applications ACCEPTED 11/16/2018 - 4/15/2019

One application per academic year after department/college and grant funds are depleted. Award amount: up to $1000.00 for pre-tenure Faculty/Instructors and up to $500.00 for Lecturers.

The funding will be awarded on a competitive basis, based on the impact of the presentation to develop any or all of the following:

  • the applicant’s professional growth;
  • the students’ learning outcomes;
  • the university’s mission and institutional priorities; and
  • the broader professional community.

FUNDING LEVELS

The junior faculty travel fund grants are intended to supplement, not supplant the travel funds provided by grants, colleges and departments.  These funds must be used first.  The grants will be awarded to qualified candidates in amounts up to $1000 for pre-tenure faculty and up to $500 for Lecturers.  Faculty will receive the funds in accordance with university procedures.

BE SURE to have a .pdf of your application AND a .pdf of your travel request ready to upload when you submit (see below for details). Also, you must be logged into Google with your Rowan credentials to access the form!

APPLICATION SECTIONS 

Include the following in the specified order: 

Application (prepare a separate .pdf):
  1. Cover page with contact information
  2. Abstract of Activity including objectives – Not to exceed  75 words
  3. Statement of Impact on: 
    1. the applicant’s professional growth;
    2. the students’ educational experience;
    3. the university’s mission and institutional priorities; and
    4. the broader professional community.
Travel Request (prepare a separate .pdf):
  1. Copy of Travel Form to be Submitted to University for Grant, Department and College Funding. See Accounts Payable Downloadable Forms.
  2. Additional budget details not accounted for on travel form if necessary.

EVALUATION

Applications will be reviewed by the Faculty Center staff.

The final amount for awards will be based on unreimbursed cost for travel.

Incomplete documents and those that do not conform to the guidelines for the application will be disqualified.
