Lax Award Application

Lax Award Application

The Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Division of Academic Affairs are pleased to announce a new faculty development opportunity for junior faculty.

Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Frances R. Lax, faculty development funds will be available each academic year.  The Faculty Center has been charged with oversight of the process.

All full-time tenure track faculty in their second year of service are encouraged to apply.  The application process is expected to be competitive.

The LAX Development fund (sponsored by Frances R. Lax) will provide thirteen $1,000 stipends for professional development activities including: conference registration, academic travel, and other academic materials.

Probationary, full-time tenure track faculty who are in the second year of service.

Eligible faculty will prepare a one-page statement explaining the following:

  1. How the funds will be used (conference registration, academic travel, software purchases, and other appropriate academic materials)
  2. How the use of these funds will contribute to their development as faculty
  3. How the use of these funds is beneficial to the University

Include all pertinent material (software purchase information, conference registration,
details of academic travel*, and so on) on subsequent pages. Save pages as a PDF which will be uploaded to the application.

If the award is used for travel, all stipends must be used within the University-wide travel reimbursement policies and procedures.  Standard university travel forms must be completed and standard approval processes must be followed (any and all trips must be approved by the appropriate Dean).  Forms must be submitted both in advance of the trip and following the trip for reimbursement to occur (again following standard university procedures) and these must be approved at several levels.  The Office of the Provost will distribute the funds.

Funds are available for Spring 2020 and must be used by June 30, 2020.
Deadline for completed applications is October 31, 2019.
